AIDS in India

The Eastern and Southern states have high HIV prevalence rates. These include Manipur (1.40%), Andhra Pradesh (0.90%), Mizoram(0.81%), Nagaland (0.78%), Karnataka (0.63%) and Maharashtra (0.55%).

As per 2016 UN AIDS report –

– 21 LAKH INDIANS

are living with HIV, the 3rd largest in the world.

– 80,000+ NEW INFECTIONS

were reported in 2016.

– ONLY 49% OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS

living with HIV are on ART, treatment for HIV.

– ONLY 38% OF PREGNANT MOTHERS

living with HIV received treatment.

– EVERY 2 OUT OF 3 CHILDREN

living with HIV are not on treatment.

How Is SIOL Making a Difference?

PREVENTION –

Preventing and reducing the transmission of HIV through targeted programming, education and awareness initiatives facilitating the reduction of new cases.

CARE –

Educating people living with HIV and improving access to vital health care and treatment services improving their overall wellbeing.

EMPOWERING –

Social & Economic Empowerment of the vulnerable and affected communities is one of the most important aspects that we focus upon. SIOL does that through building vocational skills, supporting access to education, enabling income generation opportunities and linking them to social welfare schemes hence providing a non-discriminatory, stigma-free & enabling environment.
